Belgrade FOOD BANK is a non-governmental, humanitarian organisation founded in late 2006, which works towards diminishing poverty in Serbia and taking part in fight against hunger and food waste.

The Food Bank activities are based on the idea of sharing and donations, as well as promoting solidarity amongst the citizens and showing that together we can be in service of those who need our help.

„Destitution bends the spine, slows down the walk, withers the voice, whilst gripping the eyes like an invisible, sticky spiders web, irrepairably and irreversibly kneading the human being down, tightening its limits around him, separating him forever from joy, so that nothing can help him, nor money, nor the most favorable change of his living conditions, because he has no more the ability to accept them.“

News

First, we would like to emphasize that Société Générale Banka Srbija is the one who is enabling Food bank a permanent and continuous presence and work, and that for a third year in a row; by this, Société Générale Banka Srbija  is confirming its firm support to the local community and is showing a very high level of corporate responsibility in spite economic crisis.

Food Bank has delivered, middle of March, the Delta Maxi Group donation of basic food goods, fruit juices and cleaning products to the Association “Kneginja Milica” from Kragujevac; this donation was delivered to big families and single parent families from Kragujevac and neighborhood villages: Beloševac i Cvetojevo.

The TRAMPEX d.o.o company donation of 708 kg (variety of pasta, creamy soups, risotto and pasta sauces), Food Bank split as follows:  

- 220 kg were delivered to the Association “Carolija”, Grocka: this donation was distributed to 63 families on welfare care (single mothers, internal refugees and families with more children)

- 349 kg were delivered to Single Mothers Association from Nis, for 500 members of this Association. Bank food also has delivered to this same Association 21 kg of coffee donated by KRAFT FOODS.           

The rest of TRAMPEX d.o.o. donation, Food Bank has delivered to Single Mothers Association “Suncokret” from Loznica, and was distributed to 500 members of the Association who live in Loznica and neighborhood villages.

The same Association also got 10 kg of coffee, KRAFT FOODS donation and 29 kg of powder tiramisu cake, donated by CENTROPROIZVOD which was collected within RTV B92 “FOOD FOR EVERYONE” the action.

With regards to Easter play and concert that was organized on Lazarus Saturday for Center for children and youth with disabilities “Living together”, Beograd, on March 24^th, 2010 Food bank had delivered 12 kg of Nesquik sweets - NESTLE ADRIATIC FOODS  d.o.o. donation, and 26 kg sweets, CENTROPROIZVOD donation

In collaboration of Social welfare Center, Palilula and thanks to donator Madame Marija Vesovic Dukic, Food bank delivered 34 kg of basic food goods and hygiene products to 2 member family (retired mother with sick elderly son), beneficiaries of social welfare.

Regarding Easter food appeal collection for 924 families, with 2.314 beneficiaries of social welfare (210 - one elderly member household, 188 single parent families with 328 children – 1.073 unable to work individuals), in collaboration with Social welfare Center in Novi Bečej, Food Bank collected around 1.7 tone of food thanks to the following companies:

VICTORIA GROUP d.o.o., Novi Sad donated 400 liters of oil, PODRAVKA d.o.o.  300 kg of canned food (green beans, beans etc.) and tea; FRUVITA d.o.o. donated 120 liters of different fruit juices; Adriatic Strauss (Doncafé) made a donation of 300 kg (200 kg of flour and 100 kg of sugar).

RAIFFEISEN Bank made a purchase of half a tone of basic food goods (sugar, rice, marmalade etc.) and contributed to fulfillment of packages distributed to these families.                            

We greatly thank the donors; with their contribution, they brought some joy for Easter holiday into these socially vulnerable families in Novi Bečej. As example of good practice of corporate social responsibility in our community, they expressed their solidarity with people in distress, with those who need help the most.

As this year Easter appeal response was lower than in previous years and having on mind the important total number of social welfare beneficiaries in Novi Bečej, Food bank will continue in its efforts to collect, beside these 200 packages delivered mostly to one elderly member households, more food for other Social welfare Center beneficiaries in Novi Bečej.

Beginning of February, under the RTV B92 event  “Food for everyone”, GRAND PROM A.D. member of  Droga Kolinska Group, Beograd, donated 1470 kg of coffee (cappuccino and  GP 2in 1) and TRAMPEX d.o.o. donated 104  lit. of olive  oil. On   February 3rd, 2010,  Food bank distributed 208 kg of coffee and 84 lit. of olive oil, from these two donations, to the Humanitarian Center "Kraljica Marija, Novi Sad.

Food bank also distributed 340 kg of coffee (cappuccino and  GP 2in 1), GRAND PROM A.D. donation , member of  Droga Kolinska Group, Beograd and 45 kg of filter coffee, donation made by the company Kraft Foods, Beograd to the Association of single mothers in Nis.

People who take care of 424 disabled persons, in the Center for children and youth with disabilities "Dr. Nikola Sumenkovic" Stamnica,received 340 kg of coffee (cappuccino and  GP 2in 1), donation from the company GRAND PROM A.D., 20 l of olive oil, Trampex doo donation, 90 kg of soya flakes, donation from Victoria Group, Novi Sad and 117 l of coffee and choco drinks, donated by Kraft Foods, Novi Beograd.

There was also a donation of 88 kg of coffee (cappuccino), made by the company GRAND PROM A.D., to the Association of refugees, "Čarolija", Grocka.
