The appeal for the first action: distribution of food for Easter!                   

 The FOOD BANK - Belgrade, in its first action invites You to share the joy of the Easter holidays with the children and the adults from Smederevo and Stamnica by Petrovac na Mlavi. The invitation for donating and sponsoring this action is open for persons and enterprises, during a month of March in order to be able to deliver the aliments to those who need them between the 5^th and the 7^th of April 2007.

The Special Institute for Children and Youth "Dr Nikola Sumenkovic" in Stamnica has 465 beneficiaries. The majority of them are completely dependant of other's care and help. The alimentation is very important for their health and that is why their menu is very carefully composed. Many of the beneficiaries have particular needs - among 1500 meals which are prepared daily, a certain number is adjusted to diabetic diet, to gluten - free diet, or the meals are meshed. Each donation in food will help in improvement of health and thus in improvement of the quality of life beneficiaries of the institute. Along with their residents, the kitchen in the The Special Institute for Children and Youth "Dr Nikola Sumenkovic" also provides 50 daily meals for socially imperiled persons and 108 meals for out casted and displaced persons.

The Soup Kitchen in Smederevo provides daily meals for about 700 beneficiaries. Socially the most imperiled inhabitants of Smederevo are among them. Smederevo is the city where a settlement of the 800 refugees, one of the biggest in the Balkans, is located. A big number of refugees who live in the private accommodation also invoke help in food and medicine from the Red Cross office in Smederevo. The help is also necessary to the Roma which are about 10 000 in Smederevo. The greatest number of them live at the edge of existence with a tendency to increase poverty. The destiny of the Soup kitchen in Smederevo is uncertain because the contract between the Commissioners for refugees and displaced person and the US Steel on pipelining the kitchen will expire soon.
