Donations by DONCAFE group, AGROZIV, COCA COLA HBC and MICRONET school for displaced families in collective center in Resnik
Poverty strikes many categories of inhabitants in Serbia and refugees and displaced persons represent one of the very imperiled categories. By middle of August, the Food Bank has organized an action of collecting basic victuals for the displaced families from Kosovo and Metohia, accommodated in the collective center in Resnik.
In this center, 87 families live under very harsh circumstances. Out of 87, 38 families have children less than 18 years of age, 37 families - children older than 18, and other families are composed of elderly people. There are about 85 children of different age, from babies to children who are finishing their schooling successfully and there are also those who achieve awards in various school competitions. Among adults, barely 10% are permanently employed.
The ony home for these people are barracks which they have rearranged using their modest means. As the water - pressure is low, the third barrack has running water usually only in the late evenings. Some families don't have hot water, so they pour cold water in bottles and heat it in the sun in order to wash themselves. Problems with the electricity mostly happen in winter, because of surcharge, weak electric installations etc. Their destitution is great.
Owing to donators, companies Agroživ, Doncafé, Coca Cola and to the school for foreign languages and contemporary business Micronet, the Food Bank has collected for these families 2,1t of basic victuals (flower, oil, sugar, rice, macaroni, biscuits...) as well as fruit-juices. Aliments were sorted in packages separately for each family; each family has received averagely 22 kg of aliments. We also owe gratitude to Société Générale bank and to Media cast who equally support our project or any of our actions.
While preparing this action, we were in touch with The Commissioners for refugees and displaced persons and the Rakovica trustee, with the 484 group and The Red Cross of the Community of Rakovica and we are thankful to them, but we owe the special gratitude to the Secondary Machine School "Radoje Dakic" from Rakovica who has ceded their quarters for storing the aliments. We are also grateful to the volunteers Ljilja, Bisa, Vasa, Milan and Grada, who have helped this action.
The future big action, THE FOOD BANK plans for middle of October at the occasion of the International day of the Fight against Poverty when we will organize a press conference as well. At that occasion the Food Bank will announce the action of collecting aliments in the Tempo mega-market (the consumers will have an opportunity, while purchasing aliments for their own needs, to buy one or more products for a certain category of jeopardized persons); equally, the Food Bank will address a request to companies for donations. This way,it will contribute to the raise of consciousness about solidarity between citizens, about the problem of poverty in our country as well as about the importance of the social responsible managing of companies in this difficult period of transition.
