The Campaign '10 Banks for 10 Months' - Help for the available meals for 30 learners at OS Sirogojno in Zemun!

Last August Food Bank (BH) began a campaign „10 Banks for 10 months", with the goal of providing meals for 30 learners at the OS 'Sava Jovanovic Sirogojno" in Zemun. As part of this campaign, each of the 10 banks, which BH advertised, paid a contribution of 62,672 dinars in a fixed month. Because of this, meals for the whole school year 2007-8 will be provided for 30 socially disadvantaged learners in this school. The mentioned school approached Food Bank with the request of providing breakfast and lunch for 30 students, whose parents, be it due to objective or subjective reasons, are not possible to provide for them. The larger number of parents have a low level of education, the majority of them having no fixed housing or regular income, and consequently were not in a position to provide the basics: books, clothes and food.

In this school, we have educated and trained children with mild to moderate mental disabilities. The school is one of the largest of its kind in the country (furthermore, it was also so in the former SFRY) The school has 225 students, distributed into 32 departments (7 students per department), with whom teachers, speech therapists, mentors and other expert collaborators, including psychologists work. One group of students work occasionally, another section of them receive social help from the centre for social work, Zemun etc. Food Bank has made an appeal for the welfare of the students at this school (whose lives are already more than difficult enough) with respect to received help from the banks. Regarding the competition existing between banks, we have connected, the (normally) inconnectable! The majority of the below stipulated banks responded to this call for human action and hence, students have begun to receive their first meals. Meals are provided until the end of this year and the beginning of the next,  but we are expecting that the remaining banks will confirm their participation in this campaign for the final months of the school year 2007-8.
